Research Area
Select the Research Area you are interested in searching by clicking
on the appropriate radio button (e.g. Economics & Strategy, Financial Markets,
Corporate Debt, Equities). If you would like to search for documents
in all areas, select the All radio button.
Note: All search criteria are not case sensitive.
Author
Click on as many Author names from the scrolling list as you wish.
You may need to hold down the Control key while clicking to select multiple
author's names.
Documents will be selected that were authored, or co-authored, by at least one
of the Authors you specified.
Publication
Click on as many Publication names from the scrolling list as you wish.
You may need to hold down the Control key while clicking to select multiple
author's names.
Documents will be selected that represent at least one
of the Publications you specified.
Title
- You may enter one or more words here. They will be looked up in the Title
lines of the documents.
- If at least one of the words you entered matches the Title line of a
document, that document will be selected.
- Your words do not have to be entire words in the Title line. For
instance, you might enter "CIBC" (without the quotes) and it would match
"CIBC World Markets".
- You can keep phrases together by entering them in quotes. For instance,
if you enter "World Markets" (with the quotes) it will match CIBC World Markets Securities Inc., but if you enter "Markets World" it won't.
Keywords
This follows the same searching rules as the Title, but it searches in the
actual Keywords of the document. Be cautious in using keyword searches, since
there is no guarantee that the document's author will have chosen the same
keywords as you would think of. (In fact, some documents may have no keywords.)
Company Name
- You may enter one or more words here. They will be looked up in the
Company Names that the document discusses (as long as the document's author
listed them when the document was posted to the Web site).
- If at least one of the words you entered matches a Company Name in a
document, that document will be selected.
- Your words do not have to be entire words in the Company Names. For
instance, you might enter "can" (without the quotes) and it would match
Bell Canada.
- You can keep phrases together by entering them in quotes. For instance,
if you enter "Bell Canada" (with the quotes) it will match
Bell Canada but will not match Bell Sygma.
Ticker Symbol
This follows the same searching rules as the Company Name, but it searches in
the Tickers that the document discusses (as long as the document's author listed
them when the document was posted to the Web site).
Note: Unlike the other search fields, Tickers that you enter to search
for must match as whole words. Thus, for instance, if you enter "A", it will
match the ticker "A" but not, say, "AUL".
Industry
Click on as many Industry names from the scrolling list as you wish.
You may need to hold down the Ctrl key while clicking to select multiple
industries.
Documents will be selected that concern at least one of the Industries you
specified (as long as the document's author
listed them when the document was posted to the Web site).
Publishing Date
This search rule searches for the documents published in a specific period of time.
The dates entered must be in the format of yyyymmdd or mmdd which defaults
to the current year.
By only entering a date in the from field, documents published after
that date would be shown. Similarly, by only entering a date in the to field,
documents published before that date would be shown.
Show only titles in results
If the selection box is checked with an 'X' (the default), the search
results will display only the Title and Date of the documents matching the
search criteria.
If the selection box is not checked, the search results will
display more detailed information, including
Subject, Title and date, and Company information.
Performing your Search
When you are finished entering criteria, click on the button titled "Retrieve
list of documents matching criteria" to actually perform the search and show
you a page of results.
You may also click on the "Clear criteria" button to clear all entered
criteria so you can start on a new search.
Further Notes
- When you select on more than one criterion (e.g. both Analyst and Company
Name)
they all have to match against a document for that document to be selected.
- As mentioned above, when you select multiple choices or words for one given
criterion, only one of them has to match for a document to be selected.
- If you are not finding a document that you think may exist, try reducing
the number of criteria.
- After you have seen the results, if you want to go back and refine your
search criteria, press the Back button on your Web Browser and you will
be returned to the Search page with all of your previous criteria still
showing.
